Title: Fenceboard // Artist: Benjamin Green

about the piece

This piece has a redwood burl backing, a mountain spire made of broken redwood fenceboards,  foreground of broken veneer, and beach stones as moon and other landscape details. The elements are layered in place using Liquid Nails as adhesive.
Way back when, I sold wood from demolished buildings as campfire wood. I usually stomped the boards with my feet to make them firepit sized. The resulting edges always looked like pieces of landscape to me. The idea stuck, and maybe 30 years later I finally made this first  “Fenceboard” landscape. If there is a “meaning” to the work beyond image and composition, it is that there are only so many design elements in nature.
