Title: The Shirt Factory Windows // Artist: Janet Cooke

about the piece

There’s a remarkable old building in Glens Falls, NY, the site of a former shirt factory, that now houses artist and artisan studios.  I was walking through the enormous musty hallways and came across a stately window with dying ivy clinging to it. The image was simply stunning, with windows and more windows across the alley reflecting the soft sunlight of the fall day.  I have become fascinated by painting windows—and what’s beyond, or reflected in them.  It’s almost as if they hold all the secrets of the past, present and future within their panes.  Oil on canvas 20” x 16”.
