Title: Barefoot Kid // Artist: Julia Kossack
about the piece
| Captured in July 2023, this was shot on my first self-purchased manual film camera, using Kodak Gold 200. At the time I was working a job that made me very unhappy, so this trip was a gentle but powerful reminder that there are many good things to feel joyful and curious about. I´m a big fan of seeking out places with trees when I need a reminder of those things. Sometimes I can find it difficult to name my work, which is when I turn to music and songs I’ve been clinging to. On that note (very bad pun, but I’ll shamefully roll with it) — if you’re into folk music as well, I warmly recommend The Arcadian Wild and their song ‘Barefoot Kid’ |

| Julia (she/her) is an analogue photographer based in Berlin, with a habit of disappearing to Glasgow to romanticize the wonders of long distance love. With more questions than answers to most things, she is drawn to themes of transition and nostalgia as they unfold in everyday moments. Her work has been featured in Seedlings: IV Winter, the upcoming anthology Demeter´s Garden and will be shown at the :unmittelbar 2025 exhibition (Deutsche Sofortbild Kunst e.V.) in June. |
