On Parade
by Nicholas Olah
there’s a whisper in the hallway
there’s a prayer lodged beneath the tongue
there’s a pause after an apology like
the damning distance between lightning & thunder
delicate the way two hands hold a half-broken heart
there are songs about this that haven’t been written
can you imagine the chords?
hips on parade swaying to the chorus
like the world isn’t burning
like the world isn’t burning
like the night sky isn’t peeling us apart
