| “Summer Monsoon” is a small watercolor piece that is one from a collection of a summer monsoon series. In Arizona, we live for our monsoons! The thunder and lightning storms can be so extreme, it feels as though they shake the ground. Quite a few of these pieces were made while I drove through the Rez in Northern Arizona. I appreciate when the storms come knowing the farmland in the desert there is so dependent on those monsoons. |
Title: Two Days From Everywhere // Artist: Jo Rohrbacker
about the piece
| “Two Days From Everywhere” is another watercolor piece and I painted it in the same area as “Summer Monsoon”. It isn’t, technically speaking, two days from everywhere, but it feels like it when I camp there. The sky is endless, and it’s one of those places that you can just lay down a pad and happily sleep under the vast sprinkling of stars! The little RV in this painting actually isn’t mine, it was parked in the distance from where I had laid down my sleeping pad. It looked so small against such a big sky. I painted this watercolor out there the same evening I had found out a dear friend of mine had passed away and I felt connected to her while I was there. It was a reminder that something more powerful and profound connects us to the people we love, it expands so much farther beyond our fragile, conscious bodies. |
about the artist // Jo Rohrbacker
| Jo Rohrbacker (she/her) has lived in Flagstaff, Arizona for over 30 years and attended college at NAU. When she earned her degree in fine arts, her goal was to teach knowing she could be an artist without a college education. It was important for her to create safe environments for other creatives to discover their own passions knowing an artist’s process can be so humbling and empowering in equal measure. Although her comfort zone lies within the medium of painting, she has always loved telling stories. She hopes to create children’s books in the near future accompanied by her watercolor illustrations. |
