Editor’s Note NEED TO EDIT
Lovely Readers,
Welcome to our eighth quarterly issue, and our ninth issue overall. As we close out our second full year of publications, I want to thank you for being here – whether this is your first time joining us, your third time, or maybe even your ninth time. We couldn’t do this without you. I’m so glad you’re here.
This issue has a special place in my heart. While we didn’t have a theme going into this issue, a theme kind of evolved as pieces were accepted, and now that it’s been fully curated, it’s clear that there is an unofficial theme here. Moody, gothic, and emotional are all words I’d use to describe Issue 8. Not in an “emo millenial” kind of way – more so a “I’m angry and grieving at the state of the world right now” kind of way.
As you dive into this issue, you’re going to feel a lot of things. Mainly grief, I think. But I hope that you take that grief and do something with it. Maybe that means you take part in mutual aid in your community, or speak out against fascism, racism, and genocide, or maybe you simply allow yourself to finally feel the heaviness of it all and then go from there. Whichever you choose to do, I hope this issue moves you and changes you. I hope that heaviness in your chest lightens a little bit, knowing that there are so many others who are hurting the way you’re hurting. I hope you realize you’re not alone, and there’s a whole army of heartbroken people around you, who want to fight for what is right alongside you.
Regardless of what you do after taking in this issue, I’m so glad you’re here. You matter. Your words and your art matter. I love you. You are enough.
With love,
Ophelia M.
