Title: Gold Splatter // Artist: Beth Kephart

about the piece

“Gold Splatter” is, like all the art I have been making, the result of unexpected discoveries. First, I didn’t know I had an Ohio Buckeye tree growing in my backyard until one day, when I went off into the wild corner with my plant-identifying app. Well, then: a Buckeye, and will you look at those leaves! Which I decided at once should be gelliplated-printed using my beloved Golden Open acrylics. But that was just the start. I wanted the print to feel old, so I used muslin as my base. I wanted it to feel weather-stamped, and so I used a series of color layers and then droplets, and then splatters of gold paint. Layer upon layer, until the piece felt done enough for me to show my husband with the words, “What do you think?”
