Title: Misty Morning in Tyrol
Artist: Olga Karpenko (Olly)
about the piece
| Misty Morning in Tyrol, 2020 Watercolor on paper, 56 × 38 cm Misty Morning in Tyrol grew from a journey through the Tyrolean mountains with a friend and his young daughter. The forest seemed to appear and disappear in the fog, and I still remember its slightly melancholy atmosphere. For me, the painting has also become a small symbol of friendship expressed through simple acts: one friend invited me into the mountains, while another had given me the beautiful watercolor paper on which I painted it. |

Title: Song to the Sun
Artist: Olga Karpenko (Olly)
about the piece
| Song to the Sun, 2022 Watercolor on paper, 42 × 29 cm Song to the Sun grew from a scene I brought back from a journey through Ukraine: a robin singing at sunset, seeing the sun off. In the morning, it will greet the returning light with the same simple song. Painted in 2022, during the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the work became for me an image of hope — of the persistent impulse to turn toward the light. |
