We Could
by Autumn Williams
The cupboards are light, warm brown,
and covered in dirt.
Old windows let the dust blow in
through cracks, over months of sitting empty.
I can't clean it, but you can.
You have no time for paperwork, but I do.
We don't want to move, and we definitely want this house,
and maybe an old roof isn't so scary.
It's fixable, or replaceable.
There's a tree outside with perfect branches.
When they find a cure, we could climb it together.
