Bliss
by Madhumaya A.K.
After ‘Uses of the Erotic’, by Audre Lorde
My language is built
from the sand thrown into my eyes.
My language is
a ladder
not of Diotima
but the young girl
who is laughing and shivering
with bliss
because the torrent of the river
is
hers too.
The child peaks behind the altar
to where she’s followed
a cobra’s cheeky mother
and she knows
why her bones sing
even if God is too big
of a word.
about the author // Madhumaya A.K.

| Madhumaya A.K. is a Singaporean writer studying literature and philosophy. They are invested in issues of coloniality, ecology, queerness, and liberation. Raptured by the literary’s potential for estrangement and reconciliation, they are fond of exploring nonconforming embodiments, orientations, and imaginings in their reading and writing. They tend to get enveloped into orbits, circling the same images, ideas, and words for a while, exploring them in different lights, until other orbits pick them up. |
