Title: Dreaming of Crows on a Super Blue Moon // Artist: Kim Arthurs
about the piece
| “Dreaming of Crows on a Super Blue Moon” is a Mixed Media Cyanotype created on the 2024 full super blue moon with crows on the mind, in dreams, and in the garden where this artwork was printed in sunlight, using foraged crow feathers. Glow-in-the-dark thread-stitched constellations make the original piece of artwork glow with enchantment at night when viewed in person. The artist finds the elemental process of crafting a Cyanotype is in conversation with their spiritual practice, celebrating the Wheel of the Year. This artwork relies on a labor of love and utilization of nature and its elements: Earth (plants grown from seed and nurtured to blooms in the artist’s garden, harvested and arranged to make the composition), Fire (sunlight to print the cyanotype), Water (to wash and develop the cyanotype, and bring it to life), and Air (to dry and archive the final print). The artist finds that each cyanotype invites surrendering control to nature, being at the will of the elements, & conjuring a surprising spirit at the end of each print cycle. |
