[ W r ] ( f ) i ( g h ) t [ e ]
by Elijah St. Pierre

            The reason [I’m] a writer is
when life has me [going] full haywire
all that I need [to] do is align words;
and the [punch] of the keyboard
or [that] raspy, scratchy sound
a pen [prick] makes on paper
soothes me [in] a way in which
not even ONE of [the] movements
of a talking [mouth] can.
