Title: Veneration // Artist: Luanne Castle
about the piece
| “Veneration” is a collage of images from vintage Life Magazine issues. The background is created with pan pastels and a Stabilo Woody. I like to create a background first as I imagine a “mental landscape,” then place the collage upon that background. I see the danger in society when we venerate—or have inflated expectations—of anything or anybody. The collage images are built on top of a heap of human bones. There is always someone or something watching over to make sure there are no rebels. Words are torn from Sylvia Plath’s Ariel: The Restored Edition. |
