Title: Nocturnal Impulse // Artist: Beth Kephart

about the piece

Nocturnal Impulse is a work of art that weaves and stitches a number of elements from my private paper arts world. There’s the double-cyanotype with the floating bits from the garden to the left—paper treated with kosher salt to create that starry effect. There’s the bird, built of papers I gelli printed, then sliced into strips, so that I might weave them together. There’s the sewing, of course, to keep it all in place and to give that bird its colorful feather. There are the words, torn from an old Loren Eisely book. Those tiny squares? Torn bits of cyanotypes, meant to signify song, of course.
