Title: We Are Not Numbers // Artist: Nuala Herron
about the piece
| It feels like my duty, not just as an artist but as a human being, to talk about these injustices and give a voice to those who have been silenced. We need to show solidarity with the Palestinian people (and all those living under oppressive regimes) and remind the world that they are not numbers, but unique human beings with hopes and dreams. I made this drawing ‘We Are Not Numbers’ when I was full of rage and grief, in December 2023, when the world watched on as Israel went on its murderous rampage. All the premature babies in the incubators in Gaza were left to die slowly and alone, in the worst possible way. I continue to be full of this rage and grief, as everyone should be, as it comes from a place of love and empathy for those who are suffering. |
