Title: Train 1-1 // Artist: Khadejah FazleQadir

about the piece

This piece, “Train 1-1,” is born from moments of disorientation and self-reflection as an architecture student trying to find her own voice and direction. The materials are purely digital—layers of planning the train terminal and designing it, vector shapes, and noise filters—created using Adobe Photoshop and Iumion and a little Fan favourite Revit. My specific method involves building up layers of visual static and distortion over a recognizable foundation, employing color inversions and sharp, angular masking to interrupt the visual flow. The work’s purpose is to explore the concept of liminality—the feeling of being in a transitional space, like a late-night subway platform or an in-between state of mind. The two figures represent fragments of self or perhaps the tension between my current reality and future aspirations. I want the viewer to feel the raw, lonely humanness of waiting in the dark for something to click into place. It’s an embrace of the beautiful uncertainty in any journey toward self-discovery.
